What’s on tap this week: Virginia Tech game watches in both NOLA and Baton Rouge
After a hugely successful bye week in which Florida State rose to #6 in the USA Today Poll and #8 in the AP Poll (the Noles are currently #10 in the BCS), the Seminoles will travel this week to Blacksburg, VA to face the Virginia Tech Hokies.
The Hokies lost in embarrassing fashion to Miami last week, but that was largely overshadowed by the Greek chorus of radio pundits Paul Finebaum and Chuck Oliver insisting that Auburn University plans to fire Gene Chizik and immediately hire Jimbo Fisher in the very near future.
As a reminder, Chuck Oliver’s staffers also fervently stated this past spring that FSU’s departure for the Big 12 was “inevitable.” And that Jimbo Fisher should be fired over any miscommunication on the topic of conference expansion.
So there’s that.
With Miami’s win, the Coastal Division race becomes murkier. If Miami self-imposes a postseason ban – the NCAA is expected release the official notice of allegations this month, with sanctions handed down after National Signing Day in February – that leaves a race between Georgia Tech, Duke and….Virginia Tech.
So there’s that, too.
If FSU wins its next two games, including what is expected to be an early game at Maryland on November 17, the Noles will advance to the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte.
In only slightly related news, FSU is looking to play Oklahoma State in a kickoff classic type game in 2014.
For now, here’s a fun video featuring Bjoern Werner discussing David Hasselhoff on ESPNU:
In the meantime, the Greater New Orleans Seminole Club is partnering with area Virginia Tech fans to hold joint game watches for Thursday’s game both in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The game will be broadcast at 7:00 p.m.
In Baton Rouge, Noles are invited to watch the game at Zippy’s Burritos, Tacos and More (3155 Perkins Road | Baton Rouge, LA 70808 | (225) 388-9000). In New Orleans, we’ll watch the game at our usual spot, Down the Hatch (Sophie B. Wright Place, New Orleans). Gameday specials start 30 minutes before kickoff. And don’t forget to bring canned goods!
